Collective Recollections
This blog was born out of a collective mind and formed with collective ideas; we hope it will grow out of collective experience. This community project belongs to all of us; it is a place to share your strength, weakness, hope, fears, wisdom, knowledge, and experience. It is a place for you to ask questions and to give answers based on your own experience. It is a safe harbor for those of us both in and out of recovery, as well as for the men and women who are attempting to understand and support us.
Since most of us here have our own blog’s, I have been faced with the question; what should be posted here? My answer is: anything and everything as long as you stick to the guidelines (The Write Way) listed below. Stick to your personal experience, and no subject is too taboo or off limits. Please be fearless in your posting. Every question is important, and all shared experiences are priceless. Everything has a place in this blog.

Yes heroin can cause a rash, depending on how it is administered, and a few circumstances regarding the administration.
Also often times heroin is cut with Niacin, this is something that occurs in the body naturally, but causes many people to break out in a few different types of rashes. The rashes almost always are located near the injection site, of course for a heroin addict an injection site can be anywhere on their body.
But I have injected into say my foot, and have it had cause a rash that spread all the way to my knee. The rashes are almost always redish in color and sometimes will be raised, or bumpy. I have had these last for as long as an hour or more.
Also a rash can result from what is called a "miss" where the heroin is not injected into the vein, but instead accidentally into either just under the skin or in the fatty or muscle tissues around the injection site. This will cause not only an initial rash that passes after a period of time, but also will cause a small (size of dime or smaller) to a large (quarter size or larger) hard lump that lies under the skin where it was injected.
These lumps occur more often in IM users (inter muscular - shooting into the muscle of the upper arm or into that ass), rather than IV (into a vein) users. The lumps while varying in size are almost always very hard, similar to say a marble that is below the skin, but deep enough usually where they are not visually seen.
These types of lumps have the potential turn into abscesses (infections) which often times but be sliced open and drained by a doctor, then packed with gauze, treated with antibiotics, and then changing the bandage every so often until wound was healed.
These are tell tale signs of needle use. Not everyone is an IV user, thus no "track marks" or marked arms or legs. With the IM user, depending on frequency of use, often times their entire shoulder area will feel hard, it hurts to the touch, and often limits mobility.
IM users who shoot into the butt will have similar signs. Also it can cause bruising around the injection site. It will eat literally eat the muscles, so after an extended period of time, the butt becomes mishapped, or hard in certain areas.
I know whenever I was using IM, I would be very self conscious about allowing my shoulders or ass to be touched AT ALL. I would lay in certain positions that did not allow for my shoulders to be exposed, would avoid intimate contact as much as possible, and certainly would not allow my ass to be touched. All part of the sad life a junky lives.
I mostly broke out in a rash of burglaries.
I think so, it did with me. My skin changed.
No rashes for this junky, but I know others did.
Don't know. It makes you die if you get bad heroin. That I know.
No rash here, but I have seen it on others.
My junky would always break out in more pimples and could sometimes look like he had a sunburn on his face- from scratching and scratching, rubbing...
